What the club website does
The club website is an optional add-on to MemberCrew, at $50 a month including GST, on top of the core plan. It gives the club a public website and a members’ area that run from the same records as the membership list.
That is the difference from a website kept on its own. The join form is priced from the club’s own membership settings. A public event set up for the committee appears on the website without being typed in twice. Members-only pages know who is a member. And when a volunteer who looks after the website moves on, the site stays with the club.
ZenByte, which makes MemberCrew, builds websites for a living. The about page says more about who we are.
Templates
Each template is a complete look, with the club’s logo, colours and photos slotted in. The club previews a template with its own content and switches between templates without losing anything.
- Brochure is the main template.
- Roadbook is the second a club can choose.
Menus work the way people expect on any device. On a computer, drop-downs open on click or hover, extra items fold into a More menu, and everything works from the keyboard. On a phone, a full-screen menu has large tap targets, and Join the club stays visible.
Pages and menus
The club builds its own pages, without a web designer:
- formatted text, photos and files
- menus with drop-downs, built in a menu editor
- home page blocks
- members-only pages
- draft and publish, so a page can be prepared before it goes live
Each club’s website has its own membercrew.au address, for example demo.membercrew.au for the Demo Club.
News, posts and the magazine archive
Posts cover club news, event reports and anything else the club publishes. Each post has categories, a featured image and attachments, and can be public or members only, published now or scheduled for later. Category pages list posts newest first.
The magazine archive shows every issue by its cover, with the issue’s PDF.
Events calendar
Public events appear on the website in a list and in a month view, with an organiser or the club’s contact address. Visitors can add an event to their calendar or to Google Calendar. Events run by other clubs are marked and linked to the other club. A cancelled event keeps its page, marked cancelled, so nobody turns up on the day.
Each event page carries event details that search engines can read. The events and tickets page covers replies, repeating events and tickets.
Buy and Sell
Financial members place adverts from the member portal, with up to four photographs. Buyers contact the seller through a form, so the seller’s details stay private unless they choose to show an email address or phone number. Adverts expire and can be renewed, and the seller marks them sold or withdrawn.
The club chooses whether adverts appear straight away or wait for a committee member to check them. The club can also post its own merchandise.
The join form
The join form is priced from the club’s own membership types and add-ons, so it always shows the current fees. A completed form becomes an application for the committee, with the date received recorded. Depending on the club’s settings, the applicant pays with the application, by card into the club’s own Stripe account, or after the committee approves them. The memberships and renewals page covers applications and committee approval.
The form never tells anyone whether an address already belongs to a member. If it looks like the person may already be a member, the application goes ahead as usual, the registrar is told, and the email address is sent a note suggesting they sign in to renew instead.
Contact, officers and documents
- A contact form that reaches the right officer, with messages kept for the committee.
- The officers list, managed in one place, with a printable page.
- A document library, public or members only, such as the constitution, by-laws or forms.
- Lists of useful links on any page.
Moving from WordPress
Many clubs already have a WordPress site. We bring it across for you:
- pages and posts, with their original dates and categories
- magazine issues, into the magazine archive
- events, with their venues and times converted correctly, including across daylight saving
- photos and attachments, moved into the club’s own storage
Links between pages are rewritten to the new addresses, so nothing points back at the old site. Every import starts with a dry run that shows what will come across, and running it again updates what has changed and adds what is new, without duplicates. Personal phone numbers and email addresses found in the old site are held back for the club to decide on.
We also make a map from every old address to its new one.
Found by search engines when you are ready
The club’s website stays out of search results until the club is ready. We turn on search visibility with you when your club’s site is ready. The site then gets a sitemap and event details search engines can read.
Members-only pages, events and posts are never offered to search engines, and drafts never appear.
Pricing
The club website is $50 a month, including GST, added to the core plan. The core plan runs the club without it. The pricing page has the full price list.
